hurumanu 4 (sciene)

Convection and conduction are both types of heat transfer where energy is passed from hot to cold.

When an object is heated up, the particles in it start moving faster as they gain energy.these particles also try to spread out as the gaps between particles get bigger.

if an object is heated from one end, the particles can transfer heat along. This is conduction.

some objects are good at passing on heat- these are called thermal conduction-

objects which are bad at passing thermal insulators.

  • conduction -  transferred through contact.

  • thermal insulators - do not pass on heat.

  • thermal conduction can pass on heat.

  3. blankets

  4. polar fleece

convection- non contact energy transfer, usually in liquid

as heated particles expand and move faster they also rise up. As this occurs colder particles sink because they are more dense(as particles are closer together).

this process continues eventually the whole liquid would get heated up.

this movement is called convection currents

It can also be seen in air, as warmer air is less dense and rises.

  • convection-non contact heat transfer. hot stuff rises, cold stuff sinks.

tea bag rockets .

what happend to the tea bag?
  • the teabag was lit on fire and they spread out into the air because is was hot but when it was cold it came down.

the marshmallow animation thingy-

In 2021 may 31 Monday period 4 (today) we learned about filtering. Hello my name is sita and today we are learning about filtering, this is what is means

filtering-separating different sized particles out of a mixture.

Aim: make salution and to saparate a solution from a precipitae.(preciptate is the name for a solid that forms in a liquid during a chemical reaction)

hypothesis: i think its gonna explode.

Method:

1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.

2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.

3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel

4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.

5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.

6. Observe what happened.

types of energy

red: the 8 types of energy.
black: what it is.
blue: example.

we are learning about types of energy and energy transformation

1.Heat Energy.
-produced by the movement of particles quickly.
  • When the burner of a stove top is very hot, it is a source of heat energy

2.Kinetic Energy.
-allows  anything to move.
  • walking, falling, flying, and throwing.

3.Sound Energy.
-anything you heat.
  • Sound energy is produced when an object vibrates, which results in noise.

4.Light Energy.
-from x-rays to visible light.
  • Sunlight is the best example for light energy.

5.Electrical Energy.
found in anything that uses electricity.
  •  electrical energy to charge our phones, and our muscles using electrical energy to contract and relax

6.Elastic Potential Energy.
-found in stretched things.
  • The coil spring of a wind-up clockAn archer's stretched bowA bent diving board, just before a divers jump.

7.Chemical Potential Gravity.
-found in chemicals (food).
  • A raised weight, water that is behind a dam, a car that is parked at the top of a hill

8.Gravitational  Energy
-found in objects high off the ground.
  •  A book on a table before it fallsA child at the top of a slide.

food tech

Hi blog readers, today I am going to be telling you what I did on Friday.

hello on friday period 4 i made a chocolate slice cake and i didnt go well.

What we did was Preheat the oven to 175°C then grease and line a rectangular slice tin (19cm x 29cm) with baking paper.

Beat Tararua Butter, Chelsea Soft Brown Sugar, egg and vanilla in a bowl. Sift in Edmonds Standard Grade Flour, Edmonds Baking Powder and cocoa and mix well, stir in coconut.

Spread mixture into tin and bake for approx. 20-25 minutes or until firm.

Remove from the oven and spread with Rich Chocolate Icing while the slice is still hot, then sprinkle with extra coconut. Allow to cool before cutting - slice should be slightly chewy.

Chelsea Chocolate Icing

Measure Chelsea Chocolate Icing into a bowl, add Tararua Butter and hot water, mix well until smooth. Icing should spread easily, if it is too thick add a little more hot water to allow it to spread well.

Do Now Week 9 :)

I 100% agree with this statement.

why? Because I feel like people should not be embarrassed speaking in front of people.

because people should have the confidence to speak and pronounce words without struggling.
